Apprentices

  • Canada Apprentice Loan ↗ Up to $4,000 interest-free per period of technical training in a Red Seal trade; no interest until you finish or leave training. Not offered in Quebec, which has its own support.
  • Employment Insurance during technical training ↗ Apprentices in full-time technical training may get regular EI benefits. Your province, territory or school gives you a 16-digit reference code for each training block.
  • Apprenticeship Training Grant (announced) ↗ Announced A $400 weekly top-up on top of EI for mandatory in-class technical training weeks that start on or after January 3, 2027; expected to launch in spring 2027.
  • Red Seal Completion Bonus (announced) ↗ Announced A $5,000 bonus for finishing an eligible Red Seal apprenticeship, including certifications on or after April 1, 2025; applications announced for fall 2026.
  • Tax deduction for tradespeople's tools ↗ Employed tradespeople and apprentices can deduct part of the cost of eligible tools bought for their job (CRA rules and limits apply).

College and vocational programs

  • Canada Student Grants and Loans ↗ For college certificates, diplomas and degrees: federal grants and loans, applied for together with your province's or territory's student aid.
